The theme for this month's challenge is 'summer'. We'll be looking for inspiring photos that capture what 'summer' means to you. 

You can interpret 'summer' in anyway that is meaningful to you. We're always interested to see what our themes represent to participants. So feel free to be as funky and abstract as you'd like, if that's your thing.  

The only rules you have to follow are:
1) your photograph must express 'summer' in some way 
2) your photograph must be verifiably yours
3) you must submit a single image (no composites allowed) 
4) your photograph cannot be generated or manipulated using any form of AI

Our challenges are about throwing a spotlight on beautiful, skillful and creative photography. So go ahead and give it your best shot!

In the tapestry of existence, the concept of the "Summer of Life" emerges as a vibrant, sun-kissed metaphor, symbolizing the peak of human experience. It's a season where the heartbeats synchronize with the rhythm of nature, where laughter dances on the warm breeze, and where the soul basks in the golden glow of endless possibilities.

During this fleeting season, life mimics the blissful days of summer. It's a time of exploration, where young hearts dive into the ocean of passions and dreams, their spirits unbridled like kites soaring high against the cerulean canvas of the sky. The world becomes a playground of vibrant hues, echoing with the melodies of joy, friendship, and love.

In the Summer of Life, every moment is a sun-soaked adventure, every challenge a chance to grow, and every setback a lesson learned under the shade of wise old trees. It's a time when friendships are forged in the fires of shared experiences, and love blossoms like the most exquisite of flowers, delicate yet resilient in the face of life's storms.

But just like the ephemeral days of summer, the Summer of Life, too, must eventually wane. As the sun sets on this chapter, it leaves behind a trail of cherished memories and lessons etched into the sands of time. Yet, in its passing, it gifts us the wisdom to savor the essence of life, teaching us that every moment, whether in the brilliance of summer or the quietude of winter, holds its own unique beauty.

In this competition, let us celebrate the Summer of Life through art and words, capturing the spirit of youthful exuberance, the warmth of human connections, and the wisdom gained from the passage of time. Let us weave a tapestry of stories and images that reflect the eternal sunshine residing within the human spirit, reminding us that the essence of summer lives on, long after the season has passed.

People jump into the water at the port of Corralejo, north of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. People try to refresh themselves as a summer heat wave continues. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated warnings for high temperatures throughout the islands. The south of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura stand out, where orange warnings have been activated for temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius.

Summer at a Canadian beach.  This photo, which I took, is perhaps 45 years old now.  I was looking the other day at some old documents and I came across it.  N.B.  It wasn't taken with a digital camera as back then they didn't exist!  I think I took it with my old Canon A-1 camera (I still have it too!).

While the northern hemisphere summer ends, "Down under it is just beginning.Sydney Opera house catches the hard  Sydney light in the first days of summer.

The long stretch of beach on the northern flank of Penang Island, of which Batu Ferringh beach is part of, is combination of wide golden-sand beaches and picturesque deep blue-green coves surrounded by large granite boulders that tumbled from the hilly interiors of the island, right into the sea.  The name Batu Ferringhi itself attests historically to Penang's brushes with several different foreign powers, including the British, the Dutch and the Portuguese. Some locals believe that the word Ferringhi was derived from Portuguese which means 'foreigners rock'.
